I was so happy to have found Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli on my son's book form from school! AND it was selling for $2! The perfect price for a cheapo like me! I already read the book at the library before I bought it, but I love it. Stargirl is the type of girl I'd want to be friends with, but I doubt anyone like her exists. She goes around the cafeteria singing Happy Birthday to anyone who has a birthday. Even when they're mean to her, she still sings to them as if they never said anything mean to her at all. It takes guts to be a kind person like her.
I thought that in this day and age people would be more accepting of others who are different, but that's not the case. There are a couple of kids at my son's school who have slight disabilities. Other kids don't like them. I asked my son why the other kids don't like them. He said it was because they are too happy. Sounds like a Stargirl situation to me.
